How to download your X data

Who you follow and what you like on X shows your interests very clearly. X packs all of it into a single archive file; all you have to do is ask for it.

On your phone (app)

  1. Open the X app and tap your profile picture in the top left (on some Android phones, the ☰ menu icon).
  2. Tap Settings and privacy.
  3. Tap Your account.
  4. Tap Download an archive of your data.
  5. Enter your password. X sends a verification code to your email or phone; enter it.
  6. Tap Request archive.

On the web

  1. Go to x.com/settings/download_your_data and log in.
    • Or on x.com, click More in the left menu → Settings and privacy → Your account → Download an archive of your data.
  2. Enter your password and the verification code you receive.
  3. Click Request archive.

Tip: X changes its menus often. If you can’t find this option, type “archive” or “download your data” into the search box in settings.

Which options to choose

  • Format: Nothing to choose. X always sends the archive in the same format, and ScrollTwin reads it.
  • Date range: Nothing to choose; the archive covers your whole account history.
  • Media: The archive also includes photos and videos you’ve posted, so it can be big. That’s normal — ScrollTwin doesn’t open them; it only looks at who you follow, your likes and the interests X has assigned to you.

When the file arrives

  • X sends an in-app notification and an email when the archive is ready. Small accounts take a few hours; large ones can take a few days.
  • Go back to the same page (Download an archive of your data) and click Download archive. The download link only works for a limited time (usually about a week).
  • Don’t unzip it. Go to scrolltwin.com/en/upload and drop the ZIP as-is.

FAQ

Are my direct messages (DMs) uploaded? No. Your DMs are in the archive, but the ZIP is opened inside your browser and the message files are never read. Only a summary of your interests leaves your device.

The file is huge. If you’ve posted lots of photos and videos, the archive can be several GB. You can still upload it as-is — processing happens on your device, so the big file isn’t sent over the internet.

The link never arrived. Check spam and reopen Download an archive of your data; if it’s ready, the download button appears there. If several days have passed, try a new request.

The “Request archive” button is greyed out. X usually allows one archive request every 30 days. If you already requested one, use that archive’s download link or wait until the period is over.
